Exhibition audio for Wandsworth, London Borough of Culture, and the Royal College of Art

‘Our Beautiful Neighbourhood’ is an ambitious public art project involving over 1300 young people from 50 schools in the London Borough of Wandsworth, exploring urban green spaces and creating art inspired by nature.

The project was delivered in partnership with the Royal College of Art for London Borough of Culture 2025, and the resulting artworks are being displayed in multiple venues across South London, including at Battersea Power Station.

I was asked to create an accompanying audio piece to tell the story behind the project, and to help highlight the diverse habitats and species found in Wandsworth, for those visiting the exhibitions.

Several children's multicoloured collages of insects, flowers and birds

I tagged along to record children at several schools as they took part in workshops with artists, exploring their nearby green spaces and creating art. In the finished piece we hear up close their wonderful excitement, curiosity and creative focus.

As a counterpoint to the sounds of the kids’ activities, I also interviewed a council ecologist about those local habitats and the species that live there.

Edited to create closely overlapping voices, activity and music, the resulting ‘sound collage’ was made available online and via QR codes displayed at exhibition sites – and you can listen to it here:
